When I told you...

When I spoke my grievances
Where was your compassion
Where was your understanding
I provided you a glimpse
Into a day in the life of...
Someone not like you
Yet undeniably, and most definitely like me
My parents
My grandparents
My great grandparents
Our ancestors told us those sworn to protect
Protects everything except us
That scent those German shepherds inhaled
Were flesh of my flesh
Blood of my blood
Within the core of my bones
I cringe when smoke comes from canisters
Long after the body
Has separated from the spirit
While you're protective of the blue
I'm protective of the black
That has steadily spilled red
While the soil soaks it up
I spoke our truths
You denied our facts in my presence
You pillage our culture
Stolen our melodies
Imitated our finesse
Emulateing our dialogue
But incoherent of the words you've spoken
Your indoctrination of us
Produced dialects with excellent verbiage
You've defended your steel
A right to bear arms...
That assailant you're so afraid of doesn't
Walk like me
Talk like me
Look like me...
Although you are consistently incarcerating
She and he that resembles me
Even though i may have been excluded
In the quietness of my thoughts...
If we never crossed paths but once
I'd be outlined in chalk
Resonates...knowing in reality you despise
Anyone that resembles
Me!
We've heard it between the lines
In most of subtle jabs
We aren't impressed
Yes,
Your government created the projects
Infested our neighborhoods
Mortifief the value
Castraded properties worth
And reducing worth of those that inhabit it
Incarcerated or illegally medicated
America never concerned itself with...
Things suffered in the ghettos
Until those in the suburbs injected
The same highs as the projects
No longer is it a game
When it's your child's life that's claimed
Listen I told you our truths
You laughed and said it wasn't true
And still you think I'm compared to you
Little do you know that's so far from the truth
Since you so intelligent
Do yourself a favor
Ignore who I was
Remember who I've become
Never forget who I represent
And when we next speak...
Remember...
You are speaking...
To a king not a clown
I don't mumble nor stutter
My words are firm and direct
Chosen to be eloquent and refined
Spoken for my culture
Designed specifically for...
My sisters and brothers
One village, one ancestry
Sincerely
An intellectual black man
