Like yesterday,

The memory of you remains vivid,

Today...

Especially in the illustrations of my thoughts

Although time has been hastened

I continue to hold you in thought

Like the first time I held you in my arms,

Even though your heartbeat is long gone

I'm never stopping even though I've lost you...

At least for now

The tiredness seen in your eyes

Told me all we needed to know

Admittingly, I’m selfish

I witnessed your growth...

And it tore me apart...

Knowing you watched me leave 

Unknowing to either of us...
That death wouldn't allow us back together

I couldn't bare to witness your agony

No more than I could let you see my sorrow

My love for you!

My need of you!

I called for you just the other day

“Rocco, Come here…here Rocco”

Holding your favorite ball in my hand

Just to stand with a ball in my hand

Tonight, I opened the side door...

You wasn't there laying on the pillow

Why?

Why did you have to leave me?

I never wanted you to go…

I need you with me…

The greatest listener I've ever known…

You gifted me just by being present in my life 

That I'd smile even when upset

I sensed every comforting unspoken word

At my lowest, you had the ability to lift me up

When you’re ready to come back

I’ll be waiting with my eyes close

Forgive me for being selfish

Walk between my legs just once more

Sit on my foot so I can’t move

You can get in my way all day…

I'd  give anything to have you home once more

Even though I’m thankful for the memories

It hurts knowing we can’t share any more moments

Like…

Last week, when it rained and I left you outside..

First thing I said, you were going to be mad

I guessed you were when you shook water all over me

Or that time when you ran from me…

When it was raining,

Guess you knew I was mad flashing those puppy eyes

I’ll I could do was laugh

Fussing that it won’t happen again…

If only I knew then, what I’m experiencing now

If I could just have…

One more chance to see you sleep on your back

One more chance to have you bite at the lawn mower

One more chance to hear your bark

One more chance to hug you…

Knowing that would be the hug I’d be saying
