Dear mama 

Today I realized...

Your sunset was the first day...

I had no one protecting me like you 

When it was obviously 

My own self inflicted perils

It was you that ran to my defense

Whenever I felt totally abandoned 

You were always there to hold me tight...

Tried and true it would be

Your warmth and compassion

That comfort me

Mama...

Your staunch faith in God

Blanketed the entire family

Your diligent prayers...

Covered a multitude of sins 

Your devotion to God...

Planted seeds...

That in moments of difficulty 

Aid in my decisions 

It is by means of your unconditional love

Praying over and for me

That I have a sense of peace

Mama...

At my lowest

When I felt the weight of the world 

It was your words...

Uplifting my spirits 

Motivating my dreams

Encouraging my abilities 

As you held my hand

Ensuring me it's gonna be okay

If not for your consistency 

Your perseverance in the mist of troubles 

The relentless desire to see me succeed

I wouldn't have accomplished all that I have 

Mama...

You've sacrificed so much of yourself 

You gave up so much yourself...

So that your children could attain their own

You've love through extraordinary circumstances 

Difficulties many would falter under

Overcoming battles with flesh

Defying the odds with grace 

Recognizing through it all

God's love and mercy protect you

You were always the heart

Now I'm understanding you where the soul

After your spirit departed your flesh

It became evident you were 

Our....the family foundation

The very cornerstone of our joy

We withstood because you'd stand!

If my words have any substance 

If my thoughts can travel time and space...

Please accept my apology 

Not for...not loving you enough

Not fot...not cherishing you when I had you

But...for finally understanding all...

The beautiful gifts

The amazing treasures 

God had me waiting to open...

The moment you were notified...

Your mission on this side was complete 

Every present you left...

Is filled with sentimental moments..

Of you and I

Mama...

There are so many yesterdays to remember 

So I'm allowing them to guide me today

Hopefully I can continue to make you proud

Like the first day I entered your life

Today...I find myself

Feeling blessed...

Yet I'm saddened

In this hour my heart is heavy
